Case study: Solving an OEMs challenges

Solving an OEMs challenges

Weiss Technik UK is a leading provider of innovative environmental testing solutions trusted by manufacturers from Jaguar, Rolls Royce, MAHLE Powertrain, Pfizer, Airbus, Imperial Hospital, Bramble Energy, Wella, University of Glasgow and University of Reading. Weiss Technik offers flexible environmental testing solutions with both rental and lease options, and a variety of test chambers that are in stock here in the UK.

The challenge

Weiss Technik holds a standard element for their climatic chambers in their UK warehouse as part of their service supplies stock; this centrifugal fan has a very specific component which is a critical part. Existing suppliers could not provide the right specification for this coupling adaptor component which is needed to meet certain parameters like high heat resistance. As well as the complexity of the component, Weiss Technik didn’t need many of these components to fit to their existing stock of centrifugal fans. They’d had suppliers manufacture these very specific couplings, however there was always a quality issue which meant they could not be used safely.

The Apexis solution

As Weiss Technik had an existing coupling adaptor that was a perfect example of what worked Apexis Engineering were able to complete a reverse engineering project. With thorough measurements, material inspections other observations captured Apexis Engineering produced a manufacturing drawing. Due to Apexis Engineering’s experience and expertise we understood the best materials to use to meet the tolerances and parameters required for both elements of the coupling.

The first batch of additive manufactured components was out of tolerance; Apexis Engineering immediately worked to resolve this and get the component to the right specification. The two elements were made in materials that would work perfectly when used within the centrifugal fan and with our extensive manufacturing partnership base we could provide the most cost-effective option for the complete coupling by using two different partners for this project.

The client feedback

Apexis Engineering worked closely with Weiss Technik’s Service Delivery colleague Dilip Patel. Here’s what Dilip had to say about working with Apexis Engineering:

“It’s great working with Craig and Seleena because they are a local business and they’ve come in regularly to our site to listen to our requirements carefully then delivered the things we needed to do the job properly. I’m pleased with all the parts and components that Apexis Engineering have manufactured for us, they are good quality and do what we needed them to do.”

We make it happen

We’ve worked with Weiss Technik on several one-off requirements; often something which is complex like a length, a tolerance, a coating type or material type. Apexis Engineering are happy to support Weiss Technik with their manufacturing requirements whether it’s a one-off or multiple items are required because we are always here to help.

Apexis Engineering, We make it happen

In fact, you could call us ace problem solvers for manufacturers and OEMs who need a partner that delivers on time, within budget and in full. We’re often asked if we have experience in a certain sector or industry. The answer is going to be YES but often we can’t talk about our work due to the NDAs we sign. We’ve worked with industry leading SMEs and large multi-nationals who manufacture a range of products.

We’ve designed and manufactured material processing machinery, rolling roads, shredding machines, battery recycling processes, mobile equipment, lifting jigs, electronic product recycling machines, factory in a box and shredding machines. The best way to understand if we can help with your project is to get in touch.
